Madame Ovary (Prequel) for Art in Odd Places

Madame Ovary (Prequel) is a performance for an audience of one, a place to contemplate how one’s body is a site for agency, intuition, and birth.  Also, how has this region been a limiting space, reducing gender identity to genitalia?  The piece will be performed along 14th street, andOberfelder’s film “Duet” made when she was 8 months pregnant will be displayed in the Westbeth gallery, accompanied by index cards with specific body related questions, charting the viewer’s response. Both the performance and gallery exhibition will provide an opportunity for research and development that will be incorporated into the full scale production of Madame Ovary at the Flea Theater in May, 2019.
