The Soldiers Tale (2011) In presenting a fresh version Igor Stravinsky's L'Histiore du Soldat” (a chamber piece for seven musicians, composed to be played, danced and heard,) choreographer/director Jody Oberfelder places this post World War I story in a modern world. The dramatic trajectory of the story is conveyed through the acrobatic physicality of the characters and storytelling of the narrator. Commissioned by Brooklyn Philharmonic in 2009 and premiered in June 2011 with Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra.

Approaching Climax (2009) teases the extraordinary out of ordinary encounters. By exploring the emotional intricacies of mundane, physical engagements, Oberfelder questions the nature of narrative and the mysteries of social arousal. Media design by Design Brooklyn. Costumes by Liz Prince.

DIDO & AENEAS (2008) In this updated interpretation of Henry Purcell's epic opera, Dido and Aeneas are a modern celebrity couple torn apart by the media machine. In a parallel visual narrative, tabloids expose and contribute to the buildup and dissolution of their relationship. Featuring eight dancers, chamber orchestra, six vocal soloists and chorus, Oberfelder's contemporary piece examines, through the prism of fame, universal themes of love and fate. Commissioned by the Orchestra of St. Luke's, this piece premiered at LaGuardia High School for Music, Arts, and the Performing Arts. Read a review on NYTimes.com

Moved (2003), set to pop songs by Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields, mines the emotion of love with all its flip-sided facets.

Heavy Light addresses life's tragic/comic dichotomy inspired by Horace Walpole's quote, Life is a comedy for those who think, and a tragedy for those who feel.” This new piece will develop the movement metaphors of lightness and heaviness. Costumes by Katrin Schnabl.

The Title Comes Last Three dancers travel from bland work-a-day world into a land of vibrancy, making sensuous connections along the way. Through their quirky quest, which references the senses, the dancers transform from the inside out. Developed in residencies at The Yard on Martha's Vineyard, at CND (Center for National Dance) in Paris, MASS MoCA and DNA, the piece includes music by Fishcherspooner, Debussy, Mistiquintet and other.

LineAge (2005) is a piece that explores the concepts of lines, age, change, time and evolution. Crisscrossing abstraction and humanity and rendered in physical and verbal wit, this piece features text by Coleman Hough, screenplay writer for the Steven Soderbergh film Full Frontal. LineAge is a dance that exemplifies the body as evolving text, from blank slate to wrinkles. With physical explorations and acrobatic etchings, Oberfelder and performers ask: How do we read between the lines for an emotional context?
A short film Life Line, augments this live performance. It contrasts the lines of our bodies with lines in landscape--imprints of time in nature and human nature. Shot in June 2005 by Bessie Award winning cinematographer Ronald K. Gray, and edited by Janice Ahn, Life Line features, along with the dancers, 80-year- old Martha Myers, a renowned dance educator, who breathes with the lineage of our dance community.
Lighting design is by Bessie Award-winning Kathy Kaufmann. Dramaturgy is by Mercedes Murphy, Costumes are designed by Katrin Schnabl. Original music is created by Rachelle Garniez, Mistiq, Malina Rauschenfels, Mike Rimbaud, with sound design by Paul Ruest.
