Critical Mass, U.S. Premiere (for voices, clarinet, piano)
Critical Mass (aka 'atheist mass'), an anti-religion yet positive music theater piece by Daniel Goode: Critical Mass, for three voices, clarinet, piano, is having its American premiere, back from a critical success at the Cracow Jewish Culture Festival—is a "secular service" that's fun. With Kamala Sankaram, Jessica Sabat, sopranos, John Schenkel, baritone; Goode on the clarinet; Marijo Newman, piano. Choreographed and danced by Jody Oberfelder, with Elise Knudson, Rebekah Morin, and Jill Frere. The whole evening is to be "an event" as well as a concert.

The warm-up strives to make the floor user-friendly including variations on yoga, releasing, gymnastics and Pilates. Improvisation is inserted as dancers resource their own unique energetic coils. Inverted movement will be emphasized: head, hand and forearm stands teach the upper body and arms the same skills needed for legs and feet right side up. Learning this control leads to abandon and gives one freedom to negotiate being upside-down without fear. This will lead to off-center full-tilted dancing. Dancers will find their way through phrases from the company's repertory that ease from upright into inverted moving.
